SUMMARY:Goa Lawah Festival
DESCRIPTION:\nGoa Lawah Festival is an annual three-day cultural and tourism event held each November at the Goa Lawah Temple complex (Bat Cave Temple) in Klungkung Regency. Organized by the Klungkung Regency Government (Pemkab Klungkung), the festival celebrates the spiritual and cultural heritage of one of Bali’s most sacred sea temples — while showcasing local arts, traditional competition, and community creativity to visitors from across the island and beyond.\n\n\n\nGoa Lawah Temple — meaning “cave of bats” — is one of Bali’s six directional temples (sad kahyangan), a dramatic coastal site where the cave entrance is nestled into a clifftop above the Bali Sea, home to thousands of bats considered sacred guardians of the temple. The festival uses this extraordinary setting to celebrate both the site’s spiritual significance and the living culture of Klungkung Regency.\n\n\n\nFestival highlights include the prestigious Baleganjur Ngarap Se-Bali competition — a Bali-wide ensemble percussion contest that draws troupes from across the island — alongside traditional dance and art performances, creative economy and craft exhibitions, local culinary stalls, and Bali pop music entertainment. The festival is part of the official Bali Calendar of Events.\n\n\n\nVisitors are welcome to attend. Respectful dress (sarong and sash) is appreciated when entering the temple grounds. The 2026 festival is expected to run in late November, following the established pattern of previous years. Exact dates will be confirmed by Dinas Pariwisata Klungkung closer to the event — check back here for updates.\n
