SUMMARY:Deus Ex Machina Sunday Live Music
DESCRIPTION:Every Sunday, Deus Ex Machina’s backyard garden transforms into Canggu’s most loved live music setting. The Sunday Sessions — as they’re known to regulars — are widely regarded as the longest-running weekly live music event in the area, and the reason is straightforward: good bands, no cover charge, and a crowd that actually listens.\nThe lineup rotates each week, drawing from skilled local and regional acts playing blues, funk, indie rock, and soul. The vibe is unhurried — performances build through the late afternoon and into the evening, with the backyard gradually shifting from dinner tables to dancefloor as the night progresses.\nThe setting does much of the work. The Deus backyard is a low-lit, open-air garden with fairy lights strung through the trees, a proper elevated stage, and a pop-up bar so you never need to leave the action. At its best on a good Sunday, it’s one of the most enjoyable spots on the island.\nDeus Ex Machina — the Temple of Enthusiasm — is the compound on Jalan Batu Mejan that houses a live music stage, a motorcycle workshop, a surfboard shaping bay, a skate bowl, a barber shop, and a restaurant and bar, all under one roof. It has been the anchor of Canggu’s creative culture since it opened, and the Sunday Sessions are where that culture is most visible.\nPractical tip: Arrive by 5pm to get a table in the garden before things fill up. No entry fee. Check @deustemple on Instagram for the week’s lineup — acts are usually announced a few days ahead.\n
