Makepung Jembrana Cup
The Makepung Jembrana Cup is the grand championship final of Jembrana’s annual Makepung buffalo race season. Seven circuits across the Jembrana Regency compete through a series of races from July to November, with the Jembrana Cup crowning the champion at the season finale in November.
The race takes place at dawn on a 1.5 to 2 kilometre dirt track. Pairs of decorated buffalo, their horns painted and bells jingling, pull a jockey standing on a wooden sled. Speed, control, and the pride of each circuit are all on the line. The atmosphere is electric — local families, community supporters, and visitors from across Bali crowd the track edges from sunrise.
The 2026 Jembrana Cup Finals are scheduled for Sunday, 18 November at Sanghyang Cerik, Tuwed Village Circuit in Jembrana Regency. Based on previous years, race day typically begins at 07:30. Check back closer to the date for confirmed start times.
