Medewi Boardriders Challenge 2026
Medewi Boardriders Challenge 2026
Medewi Beach holds one of Bali’s most coveted waves — a long, mellow left-hand point break that peels for hundreds of metres along the black-sand shoreline of West Bali. Once a year, the Medewi Board Riders bring the surfing community together here for the Medewi Boardriders Challenge, an annual competition that draws over 200 surfers from across Indonesia and beyond.
The contest is held in June in the Jembrana regency, roughly 70 kilometres west of Canggu along Bali’s quieter south-western coast. Divisions run for both amateur and professional surfers, and wildcard spots give grassroots local talent a shot at competing alongside established names. The Jembrana Regency Government backs the event, reflecting the region’s growing ambition to put Medewi on the international surf map.
For visitors, this is a rare chance to watch high-quality surfing in an unhurried, uncrowded setting far from the Kuta and Seminyak circus. Medewi’s wave is famously forgiving on the takeoff and long on the ride — exactly what makes it so watchable, even for non-surfers. Spectators line the shore or watch from the warung above the beach.
Exact competition dates within June are confirmed closer to the event, so check the Medewi Board Riders Facebook page for the final schedule. Getting there from Seminyak or Canggu takes about 90 minutes by scooter or car — the coastal road is one of Bali’s more scenic drives.
