Buleleng Festival 2026

Buleleng Festival 2026

The Buleleng Festival — known locally as Bulfest — is North Bali’s biggest annual celebration of arts, culture, and creative heritage. Held across six days in Singaraja, the regency capital, the festival brings together over 1,000 performers, artisans, and community groups from all nine districts of the Buleleng Regency. It is one of the few events in Bali that draws visitors deep into the island’s north, away from the tourist corridors of the south.

The main stage at Tugu Singa Ambara Raja — the lion monument at the heart of Singaraja — hosts nightly performances of traditional and contemporary Balinese arts. The classical arts venue at Sasana Budaya showcases Gong Kebyar Mebarung, the competitive gamelan tradition that defines Balinese musical culture, while Puri Kanginan hosts performances curated by the Buleleng Culture Office. Each year the festival celebrates a distinct theme drawn from Buleleng’s deep cultural history; the 2025 edition centred on the Mask Tradition of Buleleng, tracing the regency’s ceremonial mask heritage.

Beyond the performances, Bulfest runs a parallel trade and digital expo — the Buleleng Digital Expo — featuring e-sports competitions, job fairs, technology exhibitions, and digital literacy sessions alongside a lively MSME market with local food stalls, handcraft vendors, and cooperative producers. Free public transport shuttles (including traditional bemos and horse-drawn carts) connect the main festival sites across Singaraja city throughout the event.

North Bali is a genuinely different Bali — cooler, quieter, and less visited. Singaraja was the Dutch colonial capital of the island, and the city retains an atmosphere unlike anywhere in the south: wide tree-lined streets, old Chinese shophouses, and the former harbour district. Bulfest is the best possible reason to make the trip north. The two-hour drive from Ubud passes through the mountains via Kintamani — worth the journey in its own right.

If you are visiting for the festival, arrive for the early evening performances when the heat has dropped and the city comes alive. Accommodation in Singaraja is limited; most visitors base themselves at Lovina Beach, 10 km west, and taxi in. Book early if you plan to be there during the festival week.
