Goa Lawah Festival 2026

Goa Lawah Festival 2026

Goa Lawah Festival is an annual ceremony and cultural celebration held at Goa Lawah Temple (Bat Cave Temple) in Klungkung Regency, one of Bali’s most sacred and visually dramatic sea temples. The festival draws pilgrims and visitors from across Bali for traditional Balinese Hindu rituals, gamelan performances, and vibrant ceremonial processions against the backdrop of the ancient cave temple teeming with thousands of bats.

Goa Lawah — meaning “cave of bats” — is one of Bali’s six directional temples (sad kahyangan) and holds deep spiritual significance in Balinese Hinduism. The festival typically falls on Purnamaning Kedasa (the full moon of the tenth Balinese month) and features elaborate offerings, sacred dances, and communal prayers. The dramatic coastal setting, with the cave entrance nestled into a cliff face above the sea, makes this one of Bali’s most atmospheric cultural events.

Visitors are welcome to observe respectfully from the temple grounds. Traditional dress (sarong and sash) is required for entry. The festival is a powerful window into living Balinese Hindu tradition and the island’s enduring spiritual culture.

The event is finished.
