Barong Show at GWK Cultural Park
Barong Show at GWK Cultural Park
The Barong Show at GWK Cultural Park is one of Bali’s most spectacular cultural performances — a grand theatrical retelling of the eternal battle between Barong and Rangda, staged beneath the towering 121-metre Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue at the southern tip of the island. GWK’s production, known as the “Baraong Show,” brings together Bali’s finest traditional dancers, gamelan musicians, and elaborate costumes in a purpose-built amphitheatre within one of Bali’s most iconic landmarks.
The show runs approximately 30 minutes and begins at 18:00 WITA every Wednesday through Saturday. As dusk settles over the limestone cliffs of the Bukit Peninsula, the amphitheatre comes alive with the clash of the Barong lion spirit and the forces of Rangda — a performance that is both visually stunning and deeply rooted in Balinese Hindu cosmology. The evening light and dramatic setting make this a particularly memorable version of the story.
GWK Cultural Park covers 60 hectares atop the Ungasan plateau in South Kuta, Badung Regency, roughly 15 minutes from Ngurah Rai International Airport and 30 minutes from Seminyak. The statue of Garuda Wisnu Kencana — one of the tallest statues in the world — serves as an extraordinary backdrop that no village stage can match.
Visitor tips: The show runs Wednesday through Saturday only — it does not operate on Sundays, Mondays, or Tuesdays. Arrive early to secure good seats in the amphitheatre. A Barong Show-only ticket costs IDR 100,000; a combo ticket covering park entrance plus the show is IDR 200,000. The park is open daily 9:00 AM–9:00 PM, and the overall GWK experience — grounds, statues, cultural map — is worth at least a couple of hours before the evening performance.
