Carangsari Festival
Carangsari Festival
Set in the hero village of Carangsari — birthplace of Bali’s national hero I Gusti Ngurah Rai — this annual three-day festival celebrates the community’s spirit of creativity, culture, and local identity. Organized by the Karang Taruna youth group of Desa Carangsari with strong support from the Badung Regency government, the festival has become one of Petang’s most anticipated community events.
What to Expect
The festival fills the open grounds of Lapangan Monumen Pahlawan Brigjen Anumerta I Gusti Ngurah Rai for three days. Highlights include traditional competitions — the Penjor Lamak contest (elaborately decorated bamboo festival poles), a Gebogan offerings competition, and a children’s coloring event — alongside a local UMKM marketplace showcasing food, crafts, and creative products from village businesses. Live performances by local and national artists anchor the evenings.
The Village Behind the Festival
Carangsari carries deep historical significance in Bali. It is the birthplace of Brigadier General I Gusti Ngurah Rai, the Balinese hero who led the legendary Battle of Marga in 1946 and is honored on Indonesia’s 50,000 rupiah note. The festival is held in his honor at the monument bearing his name, making each edition a celebration of both creativity and collective memory.

The 2026 Carangsari Festival dates have not yet been officially announced. Based on previous editions — Cafest 3 ran August 1–3, 2024, and Cafest 4 ran October 23–25, 2025 — the festival typically takes place in the second half of the year.
