Klungkung Heritage Festival 2026
Klungkung Heritage Festival 2026
The Klungkung Heritage Festival is an annual celebration of the royal capital’s rich history and culture, held in Semarapura, the regency seat of Klungkung in eastern Bali. The festival honours the legacy of the Klungkung Kingdom — once the most powerful Balinese kingdom — and the site of the Puputan Klungkung in 1908, one of the most significant moments of Balinese resistance against Dutch colonial rule.
The two-day programme features heritage walks through Semarapura’s historic core, traditional dance and music performances at Kertha Gosa — the famous Hall of Justice with its painted ceiling of Balinese cosmic law — and a local culinary fair showcasing the distinctive flavours of Klungkung regency. Cultural exhibitions and craft displays highlight the area’s renowned traditions including songket weaving, the batik of Nusa Penida, and the ritual arts associated with the Klungkung royal court.
Klungkung is one of Bali’s most historically significant destinations and is often overlooked by visitors who stick to the Ubud-Seminyak corridor. The Heritage Festival is one of the best times to visit — the old town comes alive with performances and exhibitions, and the atmosphere around Kertha Gosa takes on a particularly vivid quality when the surrounding streets are filled with ceremony and celebration.
The Klungkung Heritage Festival 2026 runs October 10–11 in Semarapura, Klungkung. Check local tourism boards and the Klungkung Regency official channels for the full programme as the dates approach. Semarapura is approximately 40 km east of Denpasar, about a one-hour drive.
