Sambal Matah is the most popular sambal from Bali. This recipe is simple and only takes 15 minutes to make.

    • 15 shallots
    • 2 lemongrass
    • 7 chillies
    • 3 kaffir lime leaves
    • half teaspoon of shrimp paste
    • half teaspoon of salt
    • 1 teaspoon bouillon
    • 3 tablespoon coconut oil

    How to Cook


    Slice lemongrass and chillies.


    Slice shallots and kaffir lime leaves very thinly.


    Mix shallots, lemongrass, chillies, kaffir lime leaves, salt and bouillon with clean hand.


    For final touch add hot coconut oil.

    Sambal matah is good to serve with any kind of Balinese cuisine.
