SUMMARY:Tumpek Wayang 2026
DESCRIPTION:\nTumpek Wayang is one of the most sacred days in the Balinese Hindu Pawukon calendar — a ceremony dedicated to the wayang (shadow puppet) and its keeper, the Dalang. Observed on Saniscara Kliwon Wayang (Saturday Kliwon in Wuku Wayang), the day falls every 210 days and is deeply revered by the Balinese as a time to honour the spiritual power embodied in the puppet figures, which are considered sacred vessels of the gods.\n\n\n\nThe Dalang — the master puppeteer who animates the wayang and narrates the stories of the Mahabharata and Ramayana — is the central figure of Tumpek Wayang. On this day, Dalangs throughout Bali perform special prayers and make offerings over their puppet collections, which are wrapped in sacred cloth and treated as living objects. Special wayang performances may also be held at major temples, and families with a Dalang among their ancestors may hold household ceremonies.\n\n\n\nFor visitors with an interest in Balinese art, spirituality, or traditional performance, Tumpek Wayang offers a rare window into the profound reverence the Balinese hold for their performing arts. The wayang tradition in Bali was inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2011, and Tumpek Wayang is the day when that heritage is most visibly celebrated and reaffirmed across the island.\n\n\n\nTumpek Wayang 2026 falls on October 10. There are no large public events for tourists, but attending a wayang kulit performance at a local temple or banjar is the ideal way to experience the day. Check with your hotel or a local guide about performances in your area — many villages hold intimate ceremonies that are open to respectful visitors.\n\n\n\n← Bali Vibes ( https://howtobali.com/bali-vibes/ ) / ← Indonesian Food ( https://howtobali.com/indonesian-food/ )\n
