Profile
As an Island of Gods, Bali has tremendous numbers of temples all around. One of the most ancient one is Uluwatu Temple (Balinese: Pura (Luhur) Uluwatu).
Uluwatu Temple, according to Balinese beliefs, is regarded as one of the Sad Kahyangan Jagad or “six sanctuaries of the world” which means the six holiest places of worship on Bali.
The temple is built at the edge (Balinese: ulu) of a 70-meter-high (230 feet) cliff rock (Balinese: watu) projecting into the sea. The powerful waves of Uluwatu Beach lapping at the cliff’s base as a background sound along the walk reaching to the top adding more thrill to visitors’ experience. Not to mention, the sunsets here are among The Island of 1000 Temples’ most sensational.
This shrine also boasts their daily cultural dance performance, Kecak Fire Dance Performance which takes place on an amphitheater-like space on sunset hours at 6 PM – 7 PM. Visitors need to pay around $7 to get to see this marvelous storytelling spectacle of Ramayanam.
