Kuningan marks the end of the Galungan period — the day the ancestral spirits return to the heavens after their ten-day visit to Bali. It is one of the most sacred days in the Balinese Hindu calendar, observed with morning temple prayers, offerings of yellow rice (nasi kuning), and the display of tamiang — circular woven palm decorations symbolising protection. The atmosphere across the island is deeply spiritual and quietly beautiful.
