Omed-omedan (The Kissing Festival)
Omed-Omedan, also known as the “Kissing Ritual,” is a unique Balinese tradition held by the youth of Banjar Kaja in Sesetan Village every year, the day after Nyepi (the Balinese New Year), on Ngembak Geni day.
The ritual begins with communal prayers before groups of young men and women face each other, pulling and embracing one another with open hands, while the crowd splashes them with water — a symbol of joy, renewal, and togetherness. More than just spectacle, Omed-Omedan reflects the spirit of harmony and youthful energy that defines Bali’s vibrant community life.
