Pemuteran Bay Festival 2026

Pemuteran Bay Festival 2026

The Pemuteran Bay Festival is an annual celebration held in the coastal village of Pemuteran in northwest Bali — one of the island’s most celebrated marine conservation success stories. The festival honours the community’s decades-long commitment to reef restoration and sustainable tourism, combining cultural performances, underwater photography competitions, diving events, and traditional Balinese ceremonies that give thanks for the sea’s abundance.

Pemuteran is home to the world’s largest biorock reef restoration project — a pioneering initiative that uses low-voltage electrical current to accelerate coral growth on submerged steel structures, helping to rehabilitate reefs damaged by bleaching and human activity. The festival highlights this work alongside the village’s traditional Balinese Hindu culture, creating a programme that bridges environmental activism and cultural heritage in a way that is unique to Pemuteran.

The three-day programme includes traditional Balinese dance and music performances, community parades, marine conservation workshops, night diving events, and a beach ceremony in which offerings are made to the sea. The festival has a genuinely local character — it is organised by and for the Pemuteran community, with visitors welcome as guests rather than the primary audience.

The Pemuteran Bay Festival 2026 runs November 6–8 in Pemuteran Village, Buleleng, northwest Bali. Pemuteran is approximately 3 hours from Denpasar or 2.5 hours from Lovina. Several dive resorts and guesthouses in the village offer accommodation — book ahead as capacity is limited during the festival.
