Tumpek Uduh 2026

Tumpek Uduh 2026

Tumpek Uduh is one of Bali’s most quietly beautiful ceremonies — a day set aside to honor plants, trees, and the crops that sustain Balinese life. Falling every 210 days on the Pawukon calendar, it is dedicated to Dewa Sangkara, the god of plants and vegetation, and takes place this year on May 23, 2026, island-wide across Bali.

On this day, families visit the trees and plants on their land with offerings of fruit, flowers, and rice porridge — a thick, sweet mixture of bubuh (rice porridge), coconut, and palm sugar — symbolically “feeding” the trees as an act of gratitude and blessing. Tree-cutting, fruit-picking, and harvesting are avoided entirely as a mark of respect for the living world.

The ceremony is rooted in Tri Hita Karana, the Balinese philosophical principle that guides harmony between humans, the divine, and nature. Tumpek Uduh is the moment in the ceremonial calendar when that relationship with the natural world is brought to the foreground — not as abstraction, but as ritual, presence, and offering.

Also known as Tumpek Wariga, Tumpek Pengatag, and Tumpek Bubuh, the ceremony occurs precisely 25 days before Galungan, marking the approaching period of heightened spiritual significance across the island.

For visitors, Tumpek Uduh is one of Bali’s most accessible ceremonial days — there are no large processions to navigate, no restricted areas. It unfolds quietly in compounds, gardens, and rice fields across the island. If you’re in Bali on May 23, look for small offerings placed at the base of trees and notice the stillness. Dress respectfully if you’re near temples, and follow the lead of locals if invited to observe.
