Indonesian Independence Day

In order to remember and commemorate the progress that Indonesia has made over history since its independence from Dutch colonial rule in 1945, August 17th marks a day for island-wide celebrations and festivities. Local homes throughout the whole of Bali are decorated in the red and white colours of the Indonesian flag. Parades, cooking competitions and games for all ages can be found anywhere as well. If one wishes to take part in the merrymaking, a particularly festive location is Jimbaran Beach. Here, traditional games and events are held throughout the day and into the night.
